technology

Protension preforming technologies are based on the principles of filament winding. As we design machines from scratch, the possibilities in terms of product geometries expand well beyond the traditional filament winding shapes of vessel and tubes.

At this moment Protension Composites is installing an advanced robot winding facility. Upon completion in the summer of 2011, the robot facility will be used as a flexible and effective test facility to design the next composite preforming processes.

In all our processes, continuous dry fibre yarns are positioned fast and accurately onto a winding mould of some kind. The preforms can be designed to offer build-in flexibility for easy positioning into the moulding tool.

Preforms can be used in your current manufacturing environment, fully replacing all labour intensive fibre cutting and lamination steps. The method of manufacturing the reinforcement is then fully automated, leading to constant high quality. Furthermore, the dedicated design of the reinforcement reduces waste. A good example is motorcycle helmet production.

The following advantages characterize our technique:

  • high level of reproducibility (cheap quality control)

  • high product quality (continuous fibres)

  • fast process

  • low waste

If you are looking for better quality, lower cost and less waste, Protension Composites might be able to design a specific preform manufacturing process for your products. Please check out the applications section to find out more about possible applications of our technologies.
